Election for Zilla Parishad, Anchalik Panchayat and Gaon Panchayat have already been conducted in all 21 Nos of Plain District of Assam in the month of December, 2001.

Reservation for Women President in Zilla Parishad - 7 Nos.
Reservation for Women Vice President in Zilla Parishad- 7 Nos.
Zilla Parishad have been constituted in 20 Plain District except in Kokrajhar Dist.
Government of Assam has already created 20 Nos. of post of Chief Executive Officer for 20 Nos. Zilla Parishad vide Govt. Letter No. PDA.8/2002/1 dtd. 21st July/2002 and the post will be filled up from the existing Senior Grade ACS and IAS Officers.
Government of Assam has already decided to handover the works of 29 Departments to the Local Bodies for implementation in phased manner.
The Cabinet has already approved the Assam Panchayati Raj (Administrative) Rules 2002 which will be published soon. The Financial Rule under process of implementation.
Transfer of 29 subjects to PRIs is in final stages of implementation
Training for Elected Representatives of the Panchayat Bodies are going on through SIRD.
Elected Women Representatives of the Panchayat Bodies have already been given training conducted by SIRD.
Elected Members of Panchayat Bodies from various parts of Assam have participated in the Panchayat Adhyakshas Sanmilan held in New Delhi in 1st week of April, 2002.
